Maritime Moments
2010 Update- Ospreys, Black Bear and Lobsters

black-bear-along-the-river.jpgEarlier this week I opened our St Mary's camp and visited Liscomb. I'm all about the outdoor experiences in these places and this week was special. On Tuesday around noon I took a walk along the riverfront. About halfway up I heard some splashing behind me and as I turned around to see what was making the racket I saw a very healthy black bear run out of the river onto the beach opposite. The sun was bright and as the bear stopped to shake of the water he shot a big spray of droplets into the spring sunshine. It was quite a sight and unusual as bears in the wild are typically nocturnal.

osprey-snags-trout.jpgAbout 2 hours later while sitting by the campfire overlooking the river a mature osprey appeared right in front of me hunting about 200 feet from where I was sitting. He breifly hovered and then dove talons first into the current and plucked out a good sized trout (about 1 pound) and flew away with it heading in my direction. He was having some trouble gaining altitude with the weight of the struggling fish so he was less than 15 feet up and maybe 20 feet out from me when he went past. This was a Spring day I will never forget.

On Wednesday morning I left st Mary's and headed for Liscomb. The spring lobster season just opened. The day was bright and breezy and the ocean had that unique colbalt blue colour you see this time of year. As I reached Little Liscomb a lobster boat was steaming up the fresh-catch.jpgchannel pushing a big bow wake and being chased by at least 100 screaching gulls feeding on the old lobster bait the fishermen were cleaning out of their traps. It was an amazing maritime scene. I pulled up and waited to see which wharf they were headed for and then went there to have a look at their catch. They had done well that morning. I bought 8 great, fresh one and half pounders...$4.00 per pound! The family enjoyed a delicious lobster feed that evening.

I thought I would take a few minutues to diary these moments for you. Hopefully my description will give a feel for the special lifestyle experiences that the properties you have purchased have to offer.
